  • Car batteries, engine oil, household batteries and electrical items.
  • Energy saving lightbulbs and fluorescent tubes.
  • Garden waste, rubble and soils.
  • Fridges, freezers and furniture.
  • Scrap metal, timber and glass.

Residents can dispose of the following items free of charge:

  • Bicycles, books/CDs/DVDs, bric-a-brac and tools, car batteries, carpets, cooking oil, household batteries, cardboard, aluminium foil, drinks and food cans, electrical items and equipment, including mobile phones.
  • All lightbulbs, engine oil, fluorescent tubes, fridges and freezers, furniture, garden waste, glass bottles, mattresses, paper, plastic bottles, large plastics, plasterboard (gypsum), printer cartridges, rubble, scrap metal, textiles/clothes/shoes, tetra paks, timber/wood, tools, tyres, soils.

Asbestos is not accepted on this site at the moment.

    Daily from 8am to 8pm

  • 1st Oct - 31st Mar

    Daily from  8am to 5pm

Please remember you can use any recycling centre in Merseyside. The nearest centres are:

  • South Sefton HWRC - Irlam Road, Bootle
  • Huyton HWR - Wilson Road, Huyton
  • Kirkby HWRC - Depot Lane, Kirkby

You will need a permit if you are carrying your waste in a van, flatbed or trailer (between 2-3 metres long).  Permits are free and you can apply for a permit via the MWDA website or call 0151 236 0305.

Find a bring bank

There are 31 bring banks sites across the city which give residents the opportunity to recycle their unwanted items using these banks or alongside their kerbside collection service. You can recycle cans, glass, paper and textiles in the banks.
