Liverpool City Council - Respect, week of action

Respect Week of Action in your neighbourhood

Respect in the community logo

The term 'Respect' originated from a national Home Office campaign which ran throughout 2007 and 2008.  The aim of the campaign was to develop and build a stronger and more co-ordinated approach to tackling anti-social behaviour and associated environmental problems within communities.

Background to Respect Weeks of Action

During 2008 - 2009 partners of Liverpool First (Liverpool's Local Strategic Partnership) delivered a programme of nine "Respect Weeks of Action" in identified wards across Liverpool.  The programme brought together a wide variety of agencies and organisations who, with the help of local residents, tackled a host of crime and environmental issues.  They also looked at ways to bring the community closer together with sporting and healthier lifestyle activities for both young and older people alike.

The Respect programme has provided a focus for partners to tackle problems such as crime and anti-social behaviour, improving job training opportunities and reducing litter and fly tipping.  The Respect weeks of action have pulled together activities linked to crime reduction and environmental improvements; activities for children and young people; opportunities for employment, education and training; and health and older people's projects.

Each week has been tailored to the needs of the community, whose input is sought at the planning stage and after the week as part of a comprehensive evaluation.

Ultimately, Respect Weeks of Action engage local people with local partners and deliver real results on the ground to enable some of our most deprived communities to thrive.

The next Respect Week of Action will take place in

Everton from Monday 15th March to Sunday 21st February.

There will also be Respect Weeks of Action in the following Wards during 2009 - 2010.
