Appeals for housing benefit and council tax support
We will write to you with a decision about housing benefit or council tax support, if you have either:
- Made a claim.
- Had a change of circumstances which affects your claim.
What to do if you think a decision is wrong
If you are affected by a decision about housing benefit or council tax support and are not happy with it, you can:
- Ask us to explain the decision.
- Tell us what information is wrong and ask us to look at the decision again.
- If you still think the decision is wrong you can appeal.
Appeals for housing benefit and council tax support will be considered by independent tribunals who can ask us to change the decision if they agree it is wrong.
There are time limits for asking for decisions to be looked at again and for appealing.
Appointments are required for all revenue and benefit enquiries at One Stop Shops. The last appointment is half an hour before closing.
Facilities are available for the hearing impaired, including miniloop and staff trained in British Sign Language.
If English is not your first language we will arrange for a translation into another language.
