Make an appeal

We will write to you with a decision about housing or council tax benefit, if you have either:

  • Made a claim.
  • Had a change of circumstances which affects your benefit.
  • Been told you have to pay back benefit.

How do I make an appeal?

If you are affected by a decision about housing or council tax benefit you have the right of appeal.

If you are not happy with the decision, there are three things that you can do:

  • Ask us to explain the decision.
  • If you still think it is wrong, ask us to look at it again.
  • For some decisions, you can appeal to an independent tribunal who can change the decision if they agree that it is wrong.

There are time limits for asking for decisions to be looked at again and for appealing.
