What if I cannot find a Lancashire BMD index reference?

If you cannot find the index reference for the record on the Lancashire BMD please apply with the full event details below:

  • Name of the person (and the name of their partner in the case of a marriage/civil partnership).
  • Exact date of the event.
  • Exact place of birth or death.
  • Name of the church, register office or venue, for a marriage/civil partnership.

Additional verifiable information

You should also include any additional information that will help us verify that we have found the correct record, for example:

  • Death entry – occupation or address of deceased, possible informant’s names.

Types of certificate

Full birth, death, marriage and civil partnership certificates contain all information recorded in the register. A short birth certificate is also available but it does not include details of the parents and may not always be accepted by passport offices or other organisations.
