Toxteth Cemetery

Designed by William Gay and architect Thomas Denville Barry, the Grade II listed Toxteth Cemetery opened in 1856. The 30-acre site draws inspiration from classic French designs, particularly from the Cimetière du Père Lachaise, with its winding paths about a principal axis. The elevated position of the cemetery chapel is typical of Victorian attitudes of the day, as the focal point of the cemetery.
