Public weighbridge registration

To operate any public weighing or measuring equipment, such as a public weighbridge, you need a certificate of competence issued by the Chief Inspector for weights and measures at the council.

You must have sufficient knowledge for the proper performance of your duties which will be tested by Trading Standards. Registration is free.

Will tacit consent apply?

No. It is in the public interest that we process your application before it can be granted. We will contact you within five working days to arrange an assessment. If you don't hear from us after 5 working days, contact us.

Regulation summary

The legislation relating to this licence is the Weights and Measures Act 1985, section 18.

Appeals

If your application is refused, you may appeal to the Secretary of State. 

Validity/renewals

The operator's licence is limited to the type of weighbridge you will be expected to use. If the weighbridge is replaced, you will need a new certificate.
