What is it?
This is a nurse led service which promotes the health and independance of people aged 50 and over in the following ways:
Home assessments
We complete a health screening which includes blood pressure check, height, weight, BMI and medication review. We also look at the environmental risks around the home, for example, smoke detectors and hazards which could lead to accidents in the home. Our holistic approach aims to help you stay active for longer and remain independent in your own home.
Please note that the home assessments are only available to South Liverpool residents due to being a small team, but anyone can attend any of the sessions provided at Austin Rawlinson, no matter where you live in the city.
Active Ageing Programme
We provide a free Active Ageing Programme that will improve health and mental fitness, increase energy levels and help make you feel better about life. Run over six weeks, our team of older volunteers, fitness instructors, health care assistants and occupational therapists work with you through gym sessions, using Easy Line gym equipment and taster sessions such as Tai Chi.
The gym
The equipment used is easy on the joints and mimics actions from everyday living to help improve fitness, co-ordination and balance. Other equipment includes Power Plate vibration system and a Batak system, which promotes hand eye co-ordination.
You will need to attend an induction before joining the gym, where your height, weight, blood pressure and BMI and health history will be recorded.
Activities
We run informal and non-pressurised exercises classes such as:
- Tai Chi.
- Line and ballroom dancing.
- Yog and pilates.
- Chair based exercises.
- Belly dancing.
- Knit and natter.
- Indoor bowls.
- Bridge sessions.
- Table tennis.

To join the gym sessions, chair based exercise sessions and fitability sessions you will need to book an induction.
For the Active Ageing Programme, you will need to register for the next available programme.
