Using Planning Explorer

Only applications received after 1st December 2007 will have application forms, plans and other documents that have been scanned available to view.

Related documents

Your search will allow you to view all related documents which include application forms, plans and supporting material as they become available, however scanned documents may take a little longer to download and view. Please note, we are unable to upload large documents over 10mb in size. 

Guide to using Planning Explorer

You can search Planning Explorer to see what applications we have received at the planning service. You can also track the progress of applications and find out about what constraints apply to the property and who has been consulted. 

Quick search by application number

If you have details of the application number, you can do a specific application search.

Detailed search

The detailed criteria search allows you to search by any number of criteria, such as application number, site address, applicant name etc.

Application number

Enter the application number if known, e.g. 10A/0471.  If you are entering part information then use * or % to replace missing information. E.g. 10A/047%.

Applicant name or agent name

Enter the name of the applicant or agent if known, e.g. Mr G Smith.  If you are entering part information then use * or % to replace missing information. E.g. %Smith%.

Street name

Enter the house number (if known) and street name. Only applications from the year 2000 onwards are held on the system.

Please note: Not all applications may be revealed due to the way applications were transferred from a previous system.  If you think this is the case, please contact us  to enquire about applications for that particular address.

Proposal key word

Enter information if known, e.g. signage/demolish/refurbish. Use * or % before and after the word.

Ward / parish / application type / development type / status

Choose from the drop down lists.

Date search

If you do not have such detailed information or are carrying out a search for more than one application, then you can enter any information you have into search criteria and also enter the dates into date search. Please use the date format 21-09-2009.

Search date type

Choose from the drop down menu date, e.g. Month received/Date validated/Target date etc.

Search dates by months

Check this if you are going to search for applications received in the last one to 12 months.

Set number of months

Choose from the drop down list a number from one to 12 and this will show applications received in that time period i.e. during the last one, two, three months etc.

Search dates by day

Check this if you are going to search for applications received.

Set number of days

Choose from the drop down list a number from one to 31 and this will show applications received in that time period i.e. during the last one, two, three days etc.

Search between dates

Check this if you are going to search for a range of dates then set date range from and to. For example from 21-09-2010 to 05-10-2010.

Dates not applicable

This will automatically be checked according to the type of search you are making.

When you have entered all your details, click search and the results page will appear.

Search results

The results page will show a summary of all applications received according to your search. For more detailed information about each application, click on the application number link.

In addition to the application details it includes the following section about other information for planning:

  • Application dates - shows all relevant dates for the application such as valid dates, consultation dates etc.
  • Application checks - shows certain checks, though not all fields will be populated. More information can be found in constraints and site history.
  • Application meetings - shows details of any planning committee dates.
  • Application constraints - shows details of all constraints on the application site such as any tree preservation orders or landfill sites.
  • Application site history - shows details of other planning applications associated with the site.
  • Consultees details - shows details of anyone consulted about the application other than neighbours.
  • Neighbours details - Shows addresses of neighbours who have been consulted.
  • Related documents - shows documents and letters generated on the application. Open them by clicking on the document name.
