Special Educational Needs (SEN)
A new system that supports children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities has been introduced across the country.
The new approach seeks to join up additional support and help across education, health and care for children and young people from birth to 25 years.
The changes were brought in gradually from 1st September 2014.
What do these changes mean?
The new approach seeks to improve support given to children and young people with special educational needs.
As part of the changes:
- Liverpool has developed a SEND local offer website which offers advice, help and information in one place.
- Education Health and Care (EHC) plans will gradually replace statements and learning difficulty assessments. Children and young people with a special educational need or disability may be eligible for an EHC plan from birth to 25 years if they have a learning need.
- Professionals and parent carers will work together and with children and young people to ensure that they achieve the best possible outcomes.
