Licensing and permits

New tax regulations

You must complete a tax check to renew a taxi, private hire, taxi operator or scrap metal licence, or to apply for the same type of licence with a different licensing authority. We will not be able to process your application without your tax check code. Find out how to complete a tax check on GOV.UK

4. Pass the Street Knowledge Test and ID checks

This test has been introduced to make sure all drivers licensed by us give the people of Liverpool, and those who visit the city, the best service possible.

What questions will I be asked?

The test is made up of 110 online multiple choice questions that test your knowledge of Liverpool and the region. You will be tested on:

  • the shortest journeys across key parts of Liverpool
  • addresses of local tourist sites, hospitals, places to stay and other public amenities

What should I study for the test?

Once you have booked your test we will email you with the list of addresses and routes you must learn.

How much?

The test costs £65.

ID and documents you must bring to the test

Please you bring your Right to Work documents to this appointment for us to check. View a list of the Right to Work documents we accept

You will also need to bring your:

  • full, valid driving licence with your picture and current address on it
  • Liverpool Part 1 Standard Certificate

Once we have checked your documents, we will issue you with a certificate which proves we have validated them. Keep hold of this certificate as you will need it when you go to collect our licence.
