Apply for a taxi licence grant
The taxi licence grant was introduced in 2020 to help drivers affected by the local restrictions put in place as a result of coronavirus. All drivers who have already received the first payment of £210 will automatically get a top-up payment of £200. These payments will be made from the end of March 2021 using the bank details submitted in your initial application.
How will the top-up payment of £200 be made?
The top-up payment of £200 will be automatically paid using the bank details submitted in your initial application. It will show up in your bank account from Liverpool City Council. There is no need to re-apply for this payment.
Please note that you will still need to pay to renew your licence when it is due.
Can I still apply for the initial £210?
The initial grant of £210 is still being offered to drivers in the Liverpool City Region - Liverpool, Wirral, Knowsley, St Helens, Sefton and Halton - with a current and valid licence issued by Liverpool City Council who have not already applied.
If this is your first application, you will not receive the additional £200 top-up payment.
You cannot apply if you live outside the Liverpool City Region or appear on the GOV.UK bankruptcy and insolvency register.
This grant counts towards state aid. The rules are fully explained in the government state aid guidance. By accepting this grant you must confirm that you are not in breach of these rules. Please note that you will still need to pay to renew your licence when it is due.
You will be given a reference number when you submit your application. Please keep hold of this. If you qualify for the grant, the £210 payment will show up in your bank account from Liverpool City Council.
If you do not receive a payment within 28 working days please contact us and put your name and application reference number in your message.
