Cemeteries and crematoria
Allerton Cemetery
Situated in south Liverpool, Allerton Cemetery covers a wide expanse of 234 acres of land, (95 hectares). Since 1909 the cemetery has not only fulfilled its main purpose as a burial ground, but with its tree lined paths and woodlands, miles of hedgerows and vast array of bird species and wildlife, it has provided a most natural setting for the bereaved to visit their beloved. It is considered to be of sufficient historic importance and is placed on the Register of Parks and Gardens.
Options for burial at Allerton Cemetery
- Graves that can accommodate two full body burials.
- Cremated remains plots that can accommodate up to six sets of cremated remains.
- Specific Muslim and Jewish faith sections.
- Environmental friendly alternative - Natural woodland burial area with mature trees, natural plants and grasses.
Natural woodland burials
Graves in the woodland area are excavated to accommodate one full earth burial, so as to not damage tree roots. You may purchase an adjacent grave in reserve where family members wish to be buried together. Burials in this area can only take place in biodegradable coffins. Instead of the traditional headstones, which aren't allowed in this area, families choose an inscription for the grave marker.
