Cases, control and testing

Data extracted covering testing up to 16th January 2021 show that the total number of confirmed cases for the last 7 days is 3998, a decrease of 1235 cases on the previous week. The latest weekly rate of Covid-19 in Liverpool is 802.7 per 100,000 population and the latest positivity testing rate* is 20.6%.
Of the 3998 confirmed cases in the last 7 days, 793 (19.8%) were detected using Lateral Flow Testing (LFT) kits.
The majority of cases (52%) were in those aged under 40 years, whereas 31% cases were in those aged 40-59 yrs. Of all the confirmed cases in the last seven days 53% were female and 47% were male. Of those cases where ethnicity was given, 86% people were recorded as White British and 14% people were from a Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic background.
Compared to the previous week the rate of new infections in the city has slightly decreased, however the 7-day rate remains very high and is still higher than the peak values recorded during the second wave of the pandemic.
The wards with the largest number of confirmed cases are Speke-Garston (227 cases), Riverside (192 cases), Norris Green (169 cases), Clubmoor (161 cases), Princes Park (159 cases), Everton (158 cases), Warbreck (157 cases), Anfield (154 cases), Kirkdale (151 cases) and Yew Tree (150 cases).
Between 9th-15th January 2021 there were 175 registered deaths in Liverpool, of which 39% (n=69) were Covid-19 deaths.
