Report published 21st December 2020

Data extracted covering testing up to 18th December 2020 show that the total number of confirmed cases for the last 7 days is 712, an increase of 223 cases on the previous week. The latest weekly rate of Covid-19 in Liverpool is 143 per 100,000 population and the latest positivity testing rate* is 5.2%. 

Of the 712 confirmed cases in the last 7 days, 177 (24.9%) were detected using Lateral Flow Testing (LFT) kits.

The majority of cases (56%) were in those aged under 40 years, whereas 26% cases were in those aged 40-59 yrs. Of all the confirmed cases in the last seven days 52% were female and 48% were male. Of those cases where ethnicity was given, 81% people were recorded as White British and 19% people were from a Black and Minority Ethnic background. 

Compared to the previous week, we have seen an increase in rates of new infections in the city, the current 7 days rate remains high.

The wards with the largest number of confirmed cases are Riverside (51 cases), Croxteth (39 cases), Picton (38 cases), Old Swan (33 cases), Cressington (33 cases), Princes Park (31 cases), Central (31 cases), Mossley Hill (31 cases), West Derby (31 cases) and Tuebrook and Stoneycroft (28 cases).

Between 14th-20th December 2020 there were 133 registered deaths in Liverpool, of which 12% (n=16) were Covid-19 deaths.
