Cases, control and testing

Data extracted covering testing up to 19th January 2021 show that the total number of confirmed cases for the last 7 days is 3375, a decrease of 1240 cases on the previous week. The latest weekly rate of Covid-19 in Liverpool is 677.7 per 100,000 population and the latest positivity testing rate* is 19.2%.
Of the 3375 confirmed cases in the last 7 days, 629 (18.6%) were detected using Lateral Flow Testing (LFT) kits.
The majority of cases (51%) were in those aged under 40 years, whereas 32% cases were in those aged 40-59 yrs. Of all the confirmed cases in the last seven days 53% were female and 47% were male. Of those cases where ethnicity was given, 86% people were recorded as White British and 14% people were from a Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic background.
Compared to the previous week the rate of new infections in the city has slightly decreased, however the 7-day rate remains very high. The wards with the largest number of confirmed cases are Speke-Garston (189 cases), Fazakerley (168 cases), Yew Tree (160 cases), Riverside (153 cases), Norris Green (152 cases), Kirkdale (152 cases), Everton (139 cases), Belle Vale (131 cases), Princes Park (125 cases) and Clubmoor (124 cases).
Between 15th-21st January 2021 there were 182 registered deaths in Liverpool, of which 46% (n=83) were Covid-19 deaths.
