Cases, control and testing

Data extracted covering testing up to 1st January 2021 show that the total number of confirmed cases for the last 7 days is 2431, an increase of 1457 cases on the previous week. The latest weekly rate of Covid-19 in Liverpool is 488.1 per 100,000 population and the latest positivity testing rate* is 7.8%.
Of the 2431 confirmed cases in the last 7 days, 499 (20.5%) were detected using Lateral Flow Testing (LFT) kits.
The majority of cases (57%) were in those aged under 40 years, whereas 28% cases were in those aged 40-59 yrs. Of all the confirmed cases in the last seven days 53% were female and 47% were male. Of those cases where ethnicity was given, 90% people were recorded as White British and 10% people were from a Black and Minority Ethnic background.
Compared to the previous week, we have seen an increase in rates of new infections in the city, the current 7 days rate remains very high.
The wards with the largest number of confirmed cases are Speke-Garston (137 cases), Norris Green (107 cases), Warbreck (107 cases), West Derby (105 cases), Knotty Ash (101 cases), Clubmoor (100 cases), Yew Tree (100 cases), Allerton and Hunts Cross (96 cases), Belle Vale (93 cases) and Childwall (92 cases).
Between 28th December 2020 - 3rd January 2021 there were 123 registered deaths in Liverpool, of which 21% (n=26) were Covid-19 deaths.
