Cases, control and testing

Data extracted covering testing up to 2nd January 2021 show that the total number of confirmed cases for the last 7 days is 3027, an increase of 1992 cases on the previous week. The latest weekly rate of Covid-19 in Liverpool is 607.8 per 100,000 population and the latest positivity testing rate* is 16%.
The majority of cases (56%) were in those aged under 40 years, whereas 28% cases were in those aged 40-59 yrs. Of all the confirmed cases in the last seven days 53% were female and 47% were male. Of those cases where ethnicity was given, 90% people were recorded as White British and 10% people were from a Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic background.
Compared to the previous week, we have seen an increase in rates of new infections in the city, the current 7 days rate remains very high.
The wards with the largest number of confirmed cases are Speke-Garston (150 cases), Yew Tree (144 cases), West Derby (130 cases), Belle Vale (128 cases), Warbreck (125 cases), Norris Green (124 cases), Knotty Ash (121 cases), Clubmoor (120 cases), Childwall (119 cases) and Cressington (119 cases).
Between 29th December 2020 - 4th January 2021 there were 123 registered deaths in Liverpool, of which 21% (n=26) were Covid-19 deaths.
