Cases, control and testing

Data extracted covering testing up to 4th January 2021 show that the total number of confirmed cases for the last 7 days is 4176, an increase of 2976 cases on the previous week. The latest weekly rate of Covid--19 in Liverpool is 838.5 per 100,000 population and the latest positivity testing rate* is 18%.
Of the 4176 confirmed cases in the last 7 days, 917 (22%) were detected using Lateral Flow Testing (LFT) kits.
The majority of cases (57%) were in those aged under 40 years, whereas 29% cases were in those aged 40-59 yrs. Of all the confirmed cases in the last seven days 53% were female and 47% were male. Of those cases where ethnicity was given, 90% people were recorded as White British and 10% people were from a Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic background.
The rates of new infections in the city have been increasing at an alarming rate over the last 2 weeks and the 7 day rates are now higher than the peak values recorded during the second wave of the pandemic.
The wards with the largest number of confirmed cases are Speke-Garston (204 cases), West Derby (200 cases), Riverside (186 cases), Belle Vale (182 cases), Yew Tree (181 cases), Childwall (172 cases), Clubmoor (171 cases), Knotty Ash (165 cases), Warbreck (164 cases) and Allerton and Hunts Cross (159 cases).
Between 30th December 2020 - 5th January 2021 there were 148 registered deaths in Liverpool, of which 16% (n=24) were Covid-19 deaths.
