Free school meal vouchers

Parents and guardians of pupils on benefits-related free school meals are entitled to collect a weekly £10 food voucher for their child which can be redeemed online or in store at a number of supermarkets.

The council has secured an additional two weeks’ worth of food vouchers to cover the Easter holiday period.

From 20th April, Liverpool’s schools will be implementing the national scheme, which they will contact parents about.

Please note, the vouchers do not apply to children who receive 'universal infant free school meals' (all pupils in reception, year 1 or year 2). Children in those year groups who are eligible for benefits-related free school meals will be supported and entitled to collect a weekly food voucher. You must register for benefits-related free school meals if you think you are eligible and haven't already had vouchers.

How to collect vouchers

To collect the voucher, people should visit their designated children’s centre from (see list below). Please note that opening hours have been reduced to 9am-4pm. If they are in self-isolation and cannot collect please call the centre and they will arrange for it to be posted out.

In the event of your local children’s centre being closed, please call 0151 233 3000 and they will re-direct you to your nearest local centre.

Parents and guardians will need to take a letter issued by their child's school. If a letter has been lost or misplaced parents and guardians will need to provide their National Insurance number or National Asylum Seeker Service reference number, date of birth and surname.

Car parking for key workers

The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care is giving immediate financial backing for all NHS trusts to provide free car parking to NHS staff for the duration of coronavirus.

Under new measures agreed by the Local Government Secretary, all councils in England and the Local Government Association, critical key workers will also be able to use council parking bays without time restriction or charge.

The changes will apply to all on-street parking and open, council-run car parks including pay and display and will suspend charges for health workers, social care workers and NHS volunteers.

Local councils will continue to carry out crucial parking enforcement locally to ensure the public are kept safe and that the roads remain clear for emergency and essential services.
