How to get tested
Tests for people with symptoms
You must book a PCR test and self-isolate until you get your result, if you have one or more of the main Covid-19 symptoms. If you feel unwell with other symptoms please use a rapid home test.
What are the main Covid-19 symptoms?
- a high temperature - this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back. You do not need to measure your temperature
- a new, continuous cough - this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or three or more coughing episodes in 24 hours. If you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual
- loss or change to your sense of smell or taste - this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal
How do I book a PCR test?
Book online using the button below, through NHS Covid-19 app or call 119 for an appointment at the testing centre nearest to you.
What are 'other symptoms'?
If you feel unwell with any other symptoms such as a headache, stuffed or runny nose, tiredness or weakness, aches and pains, sore throat or diarrhoea you need to take a rapid home test.
How do I order a rapid home test kit?
You can order a home test kit online or call 119 - you will need an email address to do this. If the result is positive, then book a PCR test and stay at home until you know the result.
You can also pick up home test kits at a test centre or at a local pharmacy.
There are now three different types of rapid home test kits available, so always read the instructions before taking your test.
