Register for Council Tax

If you’re new to Liverpool or liable to pay Council Tax for the first time, let us know so we can set up your account.

You can do this online no more than 14 days before you move in, or up to 60 days after.  If your move happened more than 60 days ago, please contact us instead.

  • We’ll ask a series of questions about your new address to set up your account. You’ll also be able to apply for single person discount at the same time, if this is applicable to you.
  • We’ll also need an email address and contact number in case we need to get in touch.
  • If you’re over 18 and have not been liable for Council Tax until now, you’ll need to provide details of your previous address in the free text field at the end of the process.

During the registration process, you can opt in to receive your bills by email instead of post.

Before you start: please read the revenues service privacy notice which tells you how we use your data.

When you enter the system, please select ‘Start’ under the ‘Council Tax Notification’ heading and ‘Start’ under ‘New Notification’.

What happens next?

We’ll send you your Council Tax reference number and your payment schedule. Once you have a reference number you can start paying your Council Tax.

We’ll also provide you with an online key so you can access your account online, view payment history, and view copies of any letters we’ve sent you and a breakdown of payments and charges.
