Consultation on Liverpool’s Draft Special Educational Needs Partnership Strategy 2018-2022

Start date: 14th May 2018
End date: 30th June 2018

What we're consulting on

We’re consulting on our Liverpool's Draft Special Educational Needs Partnership Strategy 2018-2022 which is designed to improve service delivery in the city over the next four years.

Liverpool is about to launch a new strategy which will shape the way services are delivered to 0 to 25-year-olds with SEND, from now until 2022.

This strategy aims to ensure all agencies work in partnership to provide high quality services, build on existing good practice and make improvements where needed.

We’ve looked at the current concerns, listened to your views and set out the following priorities in our draft strategy which are designed to bring about more inclusive, effective and joined up SEND provision in the city and identify additional needs at the earliest opportunity.

The priorities we’re setting out are to:

  • Strengthen co-production arrangements so parents and carers work closely with senior leaders on the SEND agenda.
  • Improve pupil attendance at Liverpool’s special schools and reduce mainstream school exclusions.
  • Improve inclusive practice so that children and young people with SEND get the right support at the right time within mainstream provision, wherever possible.
  • Improve transition planning across the key stages of the lives of children and young people, particularly when they are transitioning into adulthood.
  • Develop the health offer so that children and young people with medical conditions are diagnosed as soon as possible and receive help and support that improves the quality of their lives.
