Cases data from week 6th-12th September 2020
Data extracted covering testing up to 12 September 2020 show that the total number of confirmed cases for the last 7 days is 455, an increase of 200 cases on the previous week. The latest weekly rate of Covid-19 in Liverpool is 91.4 per 100,000 population and the latest positivity testing rate* is 7.1%.
There has been a rapid and worrying increase in cases in Liverpool since the 1 September, when there were 94 cases per week, to the current level of 455 cases per week.
Of those cases where ethnicity was given, 91% people were recorded as White British and 9% people were from a Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic background. The majority of cases (55%) were in those aged under 40 years, whereas 27% cases were in those aged 40-59 yrs. Of all the confirmed cases in the last seven days 54% were female and 46% were male.
There is now a widespread community transmission of the virus in Liverpool, with new positive Covid-19 cases recorded mainly in the working age population. The wards with the largest number of confirmed cases are Riverside (33 cases), Allerton and Hunts Cross (29 cases), Kirkdale (23 cases), Central (20 cases), Speke-Garston (19 cases), Wavertree (19 cases), Everton (18 cases), Belle Vale (18 cases) and Fazakerley (18 cases). Compared to the previous week, confirmed cases in all wards across the city have increased, except for Picton, Warbreck and County wards.
