Cases data from week 19th-25th October 2020
Data extracted covering testing up to 25th October 2020 show that the total number of confirmed cases for the last 7 days is 2347, a decrease of 565 cases on the previous week. The latest weekly rate of COVID-19 in Liverpool is 471.2 per 100,000 population and the latest positivity testing rate* is 16.6%.
There is now a widespread community transmission of the virus in Liverpool, with new positive COVID-19 cases recorded mainly in the working age population. The majority of cases (54%) were in those aged under 40 years, whereas 27% cases were in those aged 40-59 yrs. Of all the confirmed cases in the last seven days 57% were female and 43% were male. Of those cases where ethnicity was given, 85% people were recorded as White British and 15% people were from a Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic background.
Compared to previous week, we have seen a slight decrease in rates of new infections in the city, however the current 7-day rate remains very high. The rate of new infections in older people is particularly worrying at the current very high level, resulting in increased pressure on hospitals and deaths from Covid for weeks to come.
The wards with the largest number of confirmed cases are Central (121 cases), Norris Green (121 cases), Greenbank (101 cases), Riverside (97 cases), Picton (94 cases), Knotty Ash (94 cases), Fazakerley (92 cases), Warbreck (91 cases), Allerton and Hunts Cross (91 cases), Kirkdale (89 cases) and West Derby (87 cases).
Between 21st-27th October 2020 there were 203 registered deaths in Liverpool, of which 37% (n=76) were COVID-19 deaths.
* Positivity rate = total number of positive tests from all tests carried out in the last 7 days
