Covid-19 cases and control plan

Data extracted covering testing up to 3rd January 2021 shows that the total number of confirmed cases for the last 7 days is 3519, an increase of 2384 cases on the previous week. The latest weekly rate of Covid-19 in Liverpool is 706.6 per 100,000 population and the latest positivity testing rate* is 17.5%.
Of the 3519 confirmed cases in the last 7 days, 772 (21.9%) were detected using Lateral Flow Testing (LFT) kits.
The majority of cases (57%) were in those aged under 40 years, whereas 28% cases were in those aged 40-59 yrs. Of all the confirmed cases in the last seven days 53% were female and 47% were male. Of those cases where ethnicity was given, 91% people were recorded as White British and 9% people were from a Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic background.
Compared to the previous week, we have seen an increase in rates of new infections in the city, the current 7 day rate remains very high.
The wards with the largest number of confirmed cases are Speke-Garston (174 cases), West Derby (170 cases), Yew Tree (155 cases), Belle Vale (149 cases), Warbreck (146 cases), Childwall (143 cases), Cressington (142 cases), Clubmoor (141 cases), Knotty Ash (139 cases) and Riverside (138 cases).
Between 30th December 2020 - 5th January 2021 there were 148 registered deaths in Liverpool, of which 16% (n=24) were Covid-19 deaths.
