An introduction to the infamous Mrs Gallagher
Prolific Victorian Brothel Keeper, by Susan Bennett
30th March 2021, 7pm-8.30pm on Zoom
Mrs Gallagher had a reputation of a woman, 'not to be too much meddled with'. Susan Bennett has uncovered the sensational life of Mrs Gallagher through meticulous archive research.
Susan’s talk will focus on Jane Gallagher’s life in Liverpool and the miserable reality of poverty and prostitution.
It will have the audience questioning whether Jane Gallagher should be seen as a woman with a ruthless pursuit of self-interest or one driven by an overwhelming need to provide for her children to protect them from abject poverty.
This is a free virtual event via Zoom.
