Trans Lives: Uncover Your Story

Creative Writing Session. Saturday 24th August 1-3pm. Liverpool Records Office, 3rd floor Liverpool Central Library. FREE

As part of the current exhibition 'Uncovering the Archive of April Ashley MBE and Trans Lives in Liverpool' at Liverpool Central Library, we are running a workshop which will enable LGBTQ+ people to document their experiences in Liverpool.

Commissioned as part of Liverpool City Council’s RISE season, the exhibition explores the private worlds of gender variant people in the nineteenth century, the technicolour life of April Ashley and concludes with a case that uses personal items and ephemera to document the lives and activism of individuals and organisations from across Liverpool. We want to uncover new stories for 21st century Liverpool.

Taking the form of a creative writing workshops, the sessions will be led by local author Charlie Lea who will guide participants in writing a short, true life piece about themselves. Together with the exhibition content, participants will have access to archive material for inspiration. Participants, if they wish, can deposit their stories in the archive for permanent preservation.

The maximum number of participants for this workshop is 10 so booking is essential. Please email Charlie Lea at charles@readnowwritenow.org.uk.
