Tennis Coaching Team
Andy McGarry: Head Coach
Andy is an experienced Level 4 Coach and joined the coaching team at Liverpool Tennis Centre in November 2014. Since 2000, Andy has worked with players from beginner to professional standard. He has also been a Tennis Development Officer for the LTA. Andy currently manages all of our tennis coaching programme and coaching team and is available for individual lessons.
David Hardman: Mini Tennis Co-ordinator
David rejoined the team at Liverpool Tennis Centre in September 2016 in the role of Mini Tennis Co-ordinator. David is a very experienced Level 4 Coach who has worked a variety of different indoor venues across the region. David now delivers Mini Tennis and Junior Squads and is also available for individual lessons.
Phil Leighton: Community Coach
Phil Leighton joined our team at in 2014 and delivers all of our outreach and promotional activities, including the Liverpool Schools Tennis Roadshow, which has visited 50 primary schools across the city introducing over 5,000 children to tennis. Phil is a very experienced coach who delivers promotional events across the UK, including at The Championships at Wimbledon.
Cerys Hughes: Coach
Cerys is a Level 4 Coach and re-joined the team at Liverpool Tennis Centre during 2015. Cerys is very experienced at delivering Mini Tennis and Junior Squads at venues across the country. Cerys also delivers our Disability Tennis programme, is a qualified Tournament Referee and is available for individual lessons.
Callum Moore: Coach
Callum joined the coaching team at Liverpool Tennis Centre in 2011 after completing a degree in Sports Development at Liverpool John Moores University. Callum delivers Mini Tennis, Junior Squads and Disability Tennis sessions and is available for individual lessons. Callum is a Level 3 Coach and a qualified Tournament Referee.
Tarquin Maylam: Coach
Tarquin is our longest serving coach having started at Liverpool Tennis Centre in the summer of 1996. He is a former world ranked player who reached the top 800. Tarquin is an experienced Level 4 Coach and delivers our Adult Coaching courses and Junior Squads. Tarquin is also available for individual lessons.
Stephen McQuilliam: Fitness Coach
Having graduated from Liverpool John Moores University with a Masters in Sport and Exercise Physiology, Stephen specialised in the area of strength and conditioning and is experienced working with athletes in a variety of sports, including tennis, swimming, handball and with Liverpool FC first team and academy players.
Lydia Mountford: University Tennis Co-ordinator
Lydia is the University Tennis Co-ordinator and is responsible for managing and delivering tennis sessions for students and staff from Liverpool John Moores. Lydia is a Level 2 Coach and joined the coaching team at Liverpool Tennis Centre back in 2014 and delivers Mini Tennis and Junior Squads. Lydia is an active player and still represents LJMU Women’s Team.
Chris Ablewhite: Assistant Coach
Chris has been part of the coaching programme at Liverpool Tennis Centre for many years as a player and more recently as a volunteer. Chris won Young Volunteer of the Year in the 2015 Liverpool Sports Awards and the 2015 Lancashire Tennis Awards. Chris is now a Level 2 Coach and officially became part of the coaching team in early 2016.
Tia Morris: Assistant Coach
Tia is a Level 2 Coach who joined the team here at Liverpool Tennis Centre in the summer of 2016 and now delivers Mini Tots sessions and helps with the delivery of Mini Tennis as well. Tia is still an active tennis player who competes for the teams at East Wavertree Tennis Club in the Liverpool & District Tennis League.
Charlotte Tonkiss: Assistant Coach
Charlotte is a Level 2 Coach. She has been coaching for four years and was recently picked out of one in ten coaches in England to represent tennis coaching at the National Youth Sports Trust 2015. Charlotte also plays in the 1st team for the University of Liverpool where she competes and trains on a weekly basis.
Matt Nazer: Assistant Coach
Matt joined the coaching team in the autumn of 2016. Matt is an experienced tennis player who competes regularly in tournaments across the region. He is a qualified Level 2 Coach who now supports the delivery of our Mini Tennis and Junior Squads. Matt is also available for hitting sessions with junior players.
Eloise Morris: Assistant Coach
Eloise has been part of the coaching team at Liverpool Tennis Centre since the summer of 2015. She supports the delivery of Mini Tennis and Junior Squads. Eloise is a Level 2 Coach and still enjoys playing tennis and is an active player in the Liverpool and District Tennis League.
Daniel Findell: Assistant Coach
Dan is part of the coaching team at Liverpool Tennis Centre having attended Junior Squads and Adult Coaching sessions. He is now a Level 2 Coach and helps deliver Mini Tennis sessions on a weekly basis. Dan is still an active tennis player and has volunteered many hours of his time to help grow tennis participation here at Liverpool Tennis Centre.
