Great Howard Street Replacement Bridge
Start date: End of August 2016.
Duration: Approximately 46 weeks.
This scheme was the first stage of a £32m project designed to improve Great Howard Street (A565) which links Liverpool with Sefton. This road will also be a vital route for freight to and from the new Liverpool2 deep water container terminal.
Great Howard Street bridge and tunnel were replaced to ensure there is no limit the weight of freight traffic that travels along it. In addition, the North Liverpool Key Corridor road widening scheme could not commence before this work had been completed.
£9.7m was won from the Department for Transport Challenge Fund to replace the bridge.
