Information about accepted proofs and photos
Proofs for a Mandatory Blue Badge application
If you are applying for a mandatory badge, please upload any of the following, which must be dated within the last three years.
- Your Disability Living Allowance (DLA) Benefit Award letter confirming entitlement to higher rate mobility component.
- Your Personal Independence Payment (PIP) award letter with a score of 8 points or more in the 'moving around component'.
- War Pension confirming mobility component.
- Blind registration card.
In addition, you will need to bring one item from the following list:
- Marriage, birth or adoption certificate (must be full certificate with parents details).
- Valid driving licence (card or paper version).
- Valid passport.
- Pension award letter dated within the last 12 months.
- Tax credit award or Inland Revenue letter dated within the last 12 months.
- National identity card.
You will also need to upload one colour passport sized photograph, taking the following into account:
- It must be a taken in the last 12 months, clear and front facing picture of the applicant's full face.
- It is not acceptable to wear a hat or scarf. In the case of religious preferences, the scarf should not hide your face.
- If you are wearing dark lenses, we may require you to provide a new picture without glasses, unless you are registered blind.
Proofs for a Discretionary Blue Badge application
If you do not hold any of the above you may still be entitled to a discretionary blue badge. If you have received an acceptance letter, you will need to supply a prescription for medication and/or a hospital letter confirming an appointment.
Please also supply one item from the following list, dated within the last 12 months:
- Utility bill, rent or pension book.
- Bank statement.
- Valid driving licence (card or paper version).
- DWP or DLA benefit.
- Tax credit award or Inland Revenue letter.
In addition, you will need to bring one item from the following list:
- Marriage, birth or adoption certificate (must be full certificate with parents details).

- Valid passport.
- Pension award letter dated within the last 12 months.
- Tax credit award or Inland Revenue letter dated within the last 12 months.
- PIP or DLA benefit award dated within the last 3 years.
- National identity card.
