We run a number of free English and maths courses for adults over 19 years of age.
If you want to join any of the courses below you will need to complete a skills check first, which will help us to place you in the right course group.

Getting started with English
Courses for beginners who would like to improve their reading and writing skills. This course will develop your confidence and your English skills. You can take a national qualification when you are ready.
Getting started with maths
Courses for beginners who have a fear of maths and want to improve their skills. This course will develop your confidence and help you develop maths skills. You can take a national qualification when you are ready.
Functional skills English
This course will develop your confidence in English and skills such as speaking and listening, spelling, grammar, reading and writing. This is a national qualification which will help you progress onto GCSE.
Functional skills Maths
This course will help you develop confidence in maths and skills such as working with money, fractions, decimals and percentages. This is a national qualification which will help you progress onto GCSE.
Get ready for GCSE
This short course will help you to improve your skills and find out more about GCSE qualifications. You can progress to a GCSE course in maths and English.
English for speakers of other languages (ESOL)
Courses at all levels are available, from entry level to level 1 and 2. We also work with Job Centre Plus. If you are registered unemployed and would like to join a course, please see your advisor who will make an appointment at one of our centres. ESOL courses are free if you receive certain benefits. We also have ESOL courses for fee payers.
