Join and start borrowing from any Liverpool library and our online library, Read Liverpool.

Online borrowing - Read Liverpool

Join a library 

We'll either send you a membership card by post or ask you to collect it in person.  On your first visit to the library, your card will be activated and you'll receive your unique PIN so that you can use library computers, access your online library account and sign in to the Read Liverpool e-Library catalogue.

Join via Read Liverpool - online only membership

If you live, work or study in Liverpool and have a Liverpool city postcode, you can apply for an online only membership.  A membership number and PIN will be emailed to you so that you can access Read Liverpool to browse and download ebooks, e-magazines and other e-resources.

In person

You can also visit any Liverpool library with proof of your name and address to join in person. You can then start borrowing immediately.

Library services

When you join Liverpool libraries, you can:

  • Reserve and renew items online    
  • Use Read Liverpool and download free ebooks, magazines, audiobooks, and access a host of reference resources
  • Access computers and the internet. All our libraries have computers with free internet access, Microsoft Office software and free wifi  
  • Learn in libraries and do online training courses at your local library
  • Borrow items from any Liverpool library

Lost your library card?

Contact your library to let them know you've lost your card.  Staff will add a note to your account and issue a new card on your next visit - remember to bring a form of ID with you.  The first replacement card is free then 50p for additional replacements.

Home Library Service

The Home Library Service is for people who live in Liverpool but cannot get to a library or ask anyone to collect books on their behalf. Please email mobileservices.library​@liverpool.gov.uk for more information.

Reading group tickets

Reading group tickets allow a group to borrow a set of 10 books free of charge for a 6-week period. The books can be collected from any Liverpool library.

You can apply for a reading group ticket by emailing seftonpark.library​@liverpool.gov.uk or calling 0151 233 3069 and asking for Sefton Park Library.
