Communities and safety

Liverpool Targeted Services for Young People

We are a multi-agency service working with young people aged between 10-18, who are either at risk of becoming involved in the criminal justice system or who have offended and received out of court disposals or court orders.

Our practitioners are from youth justice, youth work, health, police, education, restorative justice, social work and substance misuse.  This multi-agency approach helps us to deliver child friendly, integrated services to prevent or reduce re-offending by children and young people and increase public safety in the city.

If you’re aged 10 to 18 and been involved in crime you may be asked to work with us so that we can help you make more positive life choices.

We get involved if a young person:

  • gets into trouble with the police or is arrested
  • is charged with a crime and has to go to court
  • is convicted of a crime and given a sentence

We aim to work with young people aged 8 to 25 years, providing both universal and targeted interventions. Relationships with young people are based on voluntary engagement and are underpinned by the five pillars in youth work to help young people make informed choices and maintain positive pathways.

Worried about a young person’s behaviour?

Request a referral

If you’re concerned about a young person aged 8 to 18 involved in risk taking behaviour, who could end up in the criminal justice system you can make a referral. Consent must be given by the young person.

Our preventative services include voluntary support and advice and we can address risk issues on a one to one basis with young people and their families.

Download, complete and return the following forms to make a referral:

We can also provide community support services in youth clubs and youth centres.

Volunteering opportunities

All our volunteers must be over 18 and complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Become a mentor

Mentoring is about supporting young people to achieve their potential and being a positive adult role model.

This may include helping them to engage in education, training and employment or simply being a friendly face in difficult times for that young person.

Become a community panel member

Youth offender panels are a ground-breaking way of dealing with first-time young offenders and provide an opportunity for young people to speak for themselves, rather than through representation, and take responsibility for their actions.

As a panel member, you’d be involved in creating effective programmes to ensure young offenders repair the harm they’ve done and make sure they get help to prevent further offending.

You’d be expected to commit to two panels per month which will take up six hours in total. Training is provided.

If you’re interested in becoming a mentor or community panel member, please complete the form below and we’ll get back to you within 5 working days.
