Care leavers – emotional support
As a care leaver, we recognise at times you may need emotional support to help you look after your mental health. Find out how to access a range of local and online support.
If you are struggling with your mental health you can talk to your PA and they will help you to access the right support for you and explore the options below.
Sign up for in-person support
- YPAS offer wellbeing services, counselling and psychological therapies, and a safe space for young people to go to instead of crisis care. The service is available for young people up to the age of 25 years. You can refer yourself to YPAS or you can ask your PA to make a referral for you.

- Talk Liverpool (Talking Therapies for Anxiety and Depression) also offer psychological therapies for young people who are feeling depressed and anxious.

Mersey Care Life Rooms provide person-centred support in areas such as mental and physical wellbeing, including yoga and mindfulness, art, basic IT and healthy eating sessions. If you would like your PA to accompany you on a visit then just let them know.

Help in a mental health crisis
- The Liverpool Light is an out-of-hours mental health crisis service. It offers a safe place for people in a mental health crisis to begin their recovery. You can self refer or ask a health professional to refer you. Find out more on the Liverpool Light website.

Online and phone crisis support
- Kooth - a free, safe and anonymous online wellbeing advice, support and counselling service for young people in crisis. You can self-refer online at kooth.com
- 24-hour crisis telephone line - 0808 196 3550
- Test message support from SHOUT - confidential 24/7 mental health support for anyone in crisis and the service is free of charge. Just text ‘Shout’ to 85258.
