Consultation and engagement

Consultation on West Derby Road Active Travel Corridor

Start date: Monday 7th October 2024
End date: Monday 4th November 2024

What are we consulting on?

We want to make it easier and safer for people to walk and cycle along West Derby Road and we are suggesting walking and cycling improvements along West Derby Road linking into Newsham Park.

Part of this project will include upgrades to the temporary cycle lane on West Derby Road that were put in during Covid. We have listened to people’s views about temporary cycle lanes, including the responses to the public consultation that was held in autumn 2022. The current design will reflect community feedback and provide a more permanent solution, building on lessons from the Covid pop-up cycle lanes.

The walking and cycling improvements will go along West Derby Road from the Low Hill junction to Tuebrook roundabout. They will connect to shops, local schools, and health centres.

We want to know what you think about the suggested improvements for walking and cycling in the area. The answers we get back will be reviewed by the team working on the project and our contracted consultants, WSP,  and will be used to help finalise the details of the scheme for the West Derby Road Active Travel Corridor.

The aims of the project are:

  • Deliver walking and cycling improvements along West Derby Road with cycle lanes that are separate from the road and the pavement.
  • Increase the numbers of people walking, wheeling and cycling along West Derby Road.
  • Reduce the risk of traffic collisions for pedestrians and cyclists.
  • Improve health and well-being by encouraging more people to walk and cycle.
  • Support the council’s air quality and carbon reduction targets through increased numbers of people walking and cycling.
