Statutory notice of a proposal to amalgamate Lister Infant and Lister Junior schools

What are we consulting on?
We are consulting on the statutory notices in relation to the amalgamation of Lister Infant and Junior schools.
The notices propose the closure of the two existing schools, and the establishment of the new 'all through' Lister Primary School. This consultation will be open for four weeks, during which people can comment or object.

Background
The first consultation took place from Monday 29th September to Friday 14th November 2025.
Feedback from this consultation was considered by the Corporate Director of Children and Young People's Services, in consultation with the Cabinet Member for Employment, Educational Attainment and Skills. After considering the comments received, the decision was taken to continue with the proposals.

Any comments on the statutory proposals can be emailed to schoolorganisation@liverpool.gov.uk with 'Lister schools consultation' in the subject field.
Alternatively, you can write to: School Organisation Team (Lister schools consultation) , Children and Young People's Services, 5th Floor Cunard Building, L3 1AH.
All comments must be received by Thursday 5th February 2026.
What happens next?
Following the four-week representation period, the proposal will be submitted to the Schools Adjudicator for the final decision. The Office of the Schools Adjudicator is unable to give a firm timeline for taking this decision, however, previous decisions have usually been taken between four and six weeks.
The expected timetable progress of the proposal is:
- Consultation period: 29th September 2025 – 14th November 2025 (completed)
- Corporate Director for Children and Young People’s Services considered results of the consultation and decided to proceed to publish proposals: December 2025 (completed)
- Statutory Notices published with four week representation period: 8th January 2026 to 5th February 2026 (in progress)
- Schools Adjudicator decision: March 2026
- If approved, schools will close: 31 August 2026.
- New school will open: 1st September 2026
