How to claim asylum
If you are afraid to return to your country because of war, persecution or danger, you may be able to claim asylum in the UK. This means you are asking the UK Government to protect you as a refugee.
How to apply for asylum
You must tell the Home Office that you want to claim asylum.
The Home Office will ask you about your identity, family and why you cannot return home. They will decide if you can stay in the UK as a refugee.

While your claim is being decided
The Home Office may provide you with accommodation while you wait for a decision. You will also receive a small weekly allowance to help you buy food, toiletries and other essential items.
Most people are not allowed to work while their claim is being processed, but you can remain in the UK and access support and community services.

How to get immigration advice
In the UK, all immigration advisers must be qualified and registered with the Immigration Advice Authority (IAA). This helps protect you from unsafe or incorrect advice.
Search the IAA official list of regulated advisers (GOV.UK)

- Do not use unregulated advisers
- Do not pay anyone who says they can fix your situation or guarantee an outcome. This is often unsafe and could harm your immigration case.
