Improving public health

Fairer, Healthier Liverpool partnership

Information about Fairer, Healthier Liverpool and the work being done to improve health across the city.

The Fairer Healthier Liverpool Partnership is a city-wide collaboration of organisations committed to improving health and reducing inequalities.

The partnership focuses on the wider factors that affect health, including housing, education, employment income and the environment. Its aim is to create fairer opportunities so everyone in Liverpool has the chance to live a healthy life.

Why this matters

Our health is shaped by much more than healthcare alone. Where we live, grow, work and age affects our health and wellbeing.

Factors such as having a good quality home, access to education, secure employment, a healthy environment, strong communities and enough income all influence how long and how well we live.

People living in areas facing greater disadvantage are more likely to experience poorer health and shorter lives.

What we’re doing

Alongside our partners, we’re working to:

  • improve the building blocks of health such as housing, income, education, employment and access to opportunities
  • listen to and involve residents and communities
  • prevent ill health and support people to stay healthy and independent
  • use evidence to understand challenges, measure progress and focus action where it’s needed most
  • create lasting change
  • champion health equality

Our approach

Fairer, Healthier Liverpool follows the Marmot principles, which focus on improving the social, economic and environmental factors that shape health and wellbeing. Liverpool became a Marmot City in 2025 in recognition of its commitment to reducing health inequalities.
