Why women's health matters
Women's health includes mental health and wellbeing, reproductive health, healthy ageing, long-term conditions and access to healthcare. Factors such as poverty, caring responsibilities, violence against women and mental health can have a huge impact on health.
Women's health in Liverpool
While many women in Liverpool enjoy good health, inequalities remain. Women experience poor health around 10 years earlier than women nationally. Those living in the most deprived areas are more likely to face poorer physical and mental health, financial insecurity and barriers to healthcare.
What Liverpool is doing
Liverpool and its partners are working to improve women's health through:
- Women's Health Hubs that provide sexual and reproductive care
- Family Hubs that offer pregnancy, early years and parenting support
- trauma-informed care for women affected by violence and abuse
- community-based support for women facing barriers to accessing care
Our vision
We want Liverpool to be a city where every woman and girl can achieve the best possible health throughout her life. This includes reducing health inequalities, improving access to care and ensuring women feel listened to, respected and supported.
