Public health is about protecting and improving the health of populations and communities. In Liverpool we focus on creating and supporting a city where everyone can live a healthier, happier and longer life.

Public Health Liverpool's mission to reduce health inequalities. It aims to narrow the gap in both overall and healthy life expectancy through evidence and collaboration.

Our work

Public Health Liverpool works with communities, the NHS, schools, charities, businesses and other organisations to improve health and wellbeing.

Our work includes:

  • gathering and understanding needs and insight to inform action, policy and strategy  
  • addressing the factors that influence health, including education, employment and housing 
  • protecting people from health threats through planning, vaccination, outbreak management and regulation
  • supporting people to lead healthier lifestyles
  • improving children's health and giving every child the best start in life
  • promoting good mental health and emotional wellbeing
  • making sure health and care services meet the needs of people

Our services

We commission and oversee services that help people stay healthy and get support when they need it. 

These include: 

  • Healthy Child Programme (0–19 years) 
  • NHS Health Checks 
  • vaccination and screening programmes 
  • sexual health services 
  • stop smoking support 
  • drug and alcohol treatment services 
  • mental health and wellbeing support 
  • weight management and healthy lifestyle programmes
