What is the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment?
Find out what the JSNA is, how it is used and the health topics it covers.
Liverpool’s Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) uses data and insights about our communities to identify the biggest challenges affecting people’s health. This includes looking at factors that influence health, such as housing, education, employment, environment, lifestyle and access to services.
The information helps Liverpool City Council, the NHS and local partners plan services, target support and respond to local needs.
What topics does the JSNA cover?
The JSNA is organised around key stages of life and the wider factors that affect health:
- Our city – snapshot of Liverpool's population and health factors
- Start well – pregnancy and early childhood
- Grow well – children and young people
- Live well – healthy lifestyles and prevention of ill health
- Age well – healthy and independent ageing
- Wider factors affecting health – housing, work, education and the environment
- Conditions and diseases – focuses on the conditions affecting people in Liverpool
- LGBTQ+ – health needs of LGBTQ+ communities
Some information appears across more than one topic area because health is shaped by connected factors.
