3. Pass the Liverpool Standard Part 1
The Liverpool Standard Part 1 is a Vocational Related Qualification which you must pass in order to be considered for a new licence.
Only training providers approved by Taxi Driver Licensing Sub-committee are authorised to deliver the training. Certificates issued by non-approved providers will not be accepted.
Currently, the only approved training provider is Unite Taxi Education Centre, L3 2EW. Telephone: 0151 236 4245 or 0151 236 7654.
What’s in the course?
The course consists of classroom-based learning modules on customer service, equality and diversity, driver and passenger safety and disability access, plus a possible option of looking at route planning.
How much is the course?
Please discuss fees directly with Unite the Union. In certain cases, they may be able to help fund your training, and may consider your personal circumstances when setting a fee.
I have a criminal conviction – should I go on the course?
The City Manager will only review applications made by individuals with a criminal conviction once they have obtained a DBS certificate and DVLA mandate, and have completed a medical assessment, Liverpool Standard Part 1 Certificate and Street Knowledge Test.

Liverpool Standard Part 2
All drivers must pass the Liverpool Standard Part 2 within 12 months of being granted their first taxi licence. Please discuss this with Unite when you attend the Liverpool Standard Part 1 course.
