Public weighbridge registration
To operate any public weighing or measuring equipment, such as a public weighbridge, you need a certificate of competence issued by the Chief Inspector for weights and measures at the council.
You must have sufficient knowledge for the proper performance of your duties which will be tested by Trading Standards. Registration is free.

Tacit consent
Tacit consent does not apply. The legislation requires only that the city council process your application for you to be registered.
Regulation summary
The legislation relating to this licence is the Weights and Measures Act 1985, section 18.
Appeals
If your application is refused, you may appeal to the Secretary of State.
Validity/renewals
The operator's licence is limited to the type of weighbridge you will be expected to use. Should the weighbridge be replaced, a new certificate will be required.
Processing
Within five working days of the application being received you will be contacted so that an appointment for the assessment of operator(s) can be arranged.
Under section 18 of the Weights & Measures Act 1985 all operators of a public weighbridge are required to hold a certificate, from the Chief Inspector of Weights & Measures, to show that he/she has sufficient knowledge for the proper performance of his duties.
