Indices of Deprivation

The Indices of Deprivation measure different aspects of deprivation and are combined to provide the overall Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD). The IMD provides an overall score of deprivation and ranks every small area in England according to their relative deprivation.

The Index of Multiple Deprivation 2025

The IMD 2025 was released on 30th October 2025. Liverpool’s headline ranks were:

  • For average rank, Liverpool is considered the 12th most deprived of the 296 local authorities in England, previously ranked 4th in 2019.
  • For average score, Liverpool is considered the 9th most deprived local authority, previously ranked 3rd.
  • For the proportion of Liverpool LSOAs in the 10% most deprived nationally, Liverpool is ranked 12th, previously ranked 2nd
