Aigburth Ward by-election

A by-election will be held on Thursday 12th March 2026 in the Aigburth Ward due to the resignation of a previous councillor. 

Standing as a candidate 

If you are interested in standing as a candidate at this election, nomination papers must be submitted to the Returning Officer at the Cunard Building, Water Street, L3 1AH between 9.30am and 4pm on any date from Thursday 5th February 2026, but by no later than 4pm on Friday 13th February 2026.

How to vote

If you live in this ward and are registered to vote, you will receive a poll card by Monday 16th February 2026. If you are not registered and are eligible to vote please register to vote by Tuesday 24th February 2026.

If you would like to vote by post in this election, and you do not already have a postal vote in place, the deadline for receipt of applications is 5pm on Wednesday 25th February 2026. Find out how to apply for a postal vote (GOV.UK).

The deadline to appoint a proxy to vote on your behalf at this election is 5pm on Wednesday 4th March 2026. Find out more about postal and proxy voting.

Accepted forms of photo ID 

Electors wishing to vote in person on election day at their designated polling station will be required to show a valid form of photo ID. 

If you want to apply for a voter authority certificate because you do not have any of the accepted forms of ID listed on the Electoral Commission website you have up until 5pm on Wednesday 4th March 2026 to do so. Apply for a voter authority certificate on GOV.UK
