A new one-off £100 payment to help households with rising energy costs has been announced by the government. Find out who qualifies and how it will be paid.
We will update this page when we have more information. You do not need to contact us or apply for payments at this stage.
Who will receive this payment?
If your property is in Council Tax bands A to D and it is your main home, you may qualify for a payment.

When and how will I receive my £100?
The government has asked local councils to begin making this one-off payment from January 2027.
If you pay Council Tax by Direct Debit
In Liverpool, 113,136 households in Council Tax bands A to D pay their Council Tax by Direct Debit. This will help us to pay the £100 to these households quickly, if they qualify.
If you currently pay Council Tax by Direct Debit, you do not need to contact us about your payment at this stage.
If you do not pay Council Tax by Direct Debit
The government has not yet confirmed how we will pay the £100 to residents who do not pay Council Tax by Direct Debit.
If you do not pay Council Tax by Direct Debit, we encourage you to set one up by 31 December 2026.

What if I don't qualify?
The government has also announced a £100m national discretionary fund. This will allow us to give additional support to households affected by rising energy costs. This includes some households that may not qualify for the Household Energy Payment 2027.
When we know more, we will share details of who qualifies for this additional support and how it will be given.
What happens next?
The government is expected to give councils guidance on:
- who qualifies for the £100 payment
- how payments should be made
- how to monitor and check payments
- how the additional discretionary fund will work.
