Who is the data controller for the information I provide?
Liverpool City Council is the data controller for the personal information you provide.
Why we are collecting your data
We collect and hold information about you in order to provide:
- Service delivery.
- Service improvement, planning and performance.
- Prevention and detection of crime.
- Research using anonymised data only
Why do you need my information?
Liverpool targeted services for young people (TSYP) works with those young people who come into contact with the criminal justice system because they have committed an offence. TSYP are required by law to look at the situation of every young person it comes into contact with and identify, or assess, possible reasons why they may have committed the offence and any difficulties they may be experiencing which may increase the chances they will commit more offences in the future. Sometimes the youth offending service (YOS) will do this because a court has asked for a report on a young person before deciding how to sentence them.
What legal basis allows you to use my information?
We process personal data such as your name, address, date of birth, police national computer number. The processing is necessary for the YOS to perform its legal obligations in line with the Crime and Disorder Act and tasks in the public interest.
We process some special category data, ie gender, ethnicity, religion, and health related data. This processing is necessary for reasons of substantial public interest, on the basis of law, in respect of data protection rights and provide appropriate measures to safeguard your rights and interests.
Do I have to provide this information, and what will happen if I don’t?
Your data is essential for the YOS to support service delivery for you. Sometimes we are required by law to share information about you and we do not need to get your permission to do this. Examples might be to protect you or others against risk of harm or to prevent any future crimes.
Who will my information be shared with?
Your information may be shared with some of the following agencies
- Judicial agencies e.g. Courts.
- Police.
- Children’s social care.
- Probation.
- Health agencies.
- Education providers.
- Other youth offending teams/local authorities.
- Youth Justice Board.
- Custodial establishments
How long will you keep this information for?
Data is held no longer than is necessary. The timeframe for holding data is different depending on the purpose for which the information was collected and processed is set our below:
Prevention or out of court disposals: Intervention completion - 12 months.
Pre-court: Issuing the disposal/intervention completion - 3 years or 18th Birthday.
Court orders: Intervention completion - 5 years or 18th Birthday, unless being transitioned when it will be 18.5 years.
How will my information be stored?
All information is securely stored electronically on the TSYP case management system on Liverpool City Council’s secure network.
Will this information be used to take automated decisions about me?
No.
Will my data be transferred abroad?
No.
Source of data
Your data may be passed to TSYP by the appropriate police service, health service, courts, children’s social care, education providers and custodial establishments.
