What's our net zero goal?
Our 2030 Net Zero Liverpool Action Plan sets out the actions that Liverpool can take to become a net zero city in 2030. It is a hugely challenging target, but one that can bring many benefits.
[Notes: Do we want to join up other council initiatives here like the On-street electric vehicle charging points?]
Liverpool's net zero carbon goal
A 2030 net zero Liverpool is a thriving, fair and sustainable city. Climate action will have stimulated the local green economy and placed Liverpool at the forefront of new industries which will form the backbone of our future economy.
The city will have also stopped all contributions to climate change and have demonstrated leadership to other cities in the UK and globally. The city will also be more resilient to the climate changes we are already experiencing.
How net zero will transform Liverpool
Net zero means balancing the greenhouse gases we produce with those we remove from the atmosphere.
To get there, we must reduce our reliance on fossil fuels – especially for heating homes and public buildings, which is one of the biggest contributors to carbon emissions.
By switching to cleaner energy sources, like solar panels and heat pumps, we can heat our homes, offices and public spaces without harming the environment.
Realising Net Zero Liverpool
[Is this initiative just for businesses? Need to be clear here.]
The city currently produces 4m tonnes of CO2 each year, and we’re committed to cutting that to zero.
That’s why the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero is funding Realising Net Zero Liverpool (RNZL) – a ground breaking research programme designed to explore practical solutions with local businesses, [? I added this because the RNZL page sits in business so wanted to be sure it is. Or is there a domestic aspect?] like home retrofitting, solar energy, and heat pumps [these are not mentioned on the RNZL page]. Find out more about the RNZL programme.
