To give you an idea of how much you might be asked to contribute towards the cost of your care, you can enter some details into our online financial assessment calculator.

It's best if you have details of your income and expenditure to hand, such as benefits, pensions, earnings, savings, assets and essential costs.

Entering these details will help you find out if you need to make a contribution towards the cost of your care or not - and if so, how much that might be.

Before you start

When you enter the system, there are two calculators to choose from:

• Non-residential contribution calculator (for care and support at home)
• Residential contribution calculator (for residential and nursing homes)

It should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete an estimated calculation. The more details you provide, the more accurate the calculation will be.

What happens next?

This is just an estimate for your own records to see how much you may or may not need to contribute towards your care costs.

A social worker will carry out a care needs assessment - which is free of charge - to identify what care and support needs are appropriate for you. 

After the care needs assessment, we will offer a full financial assessment, which is carried out by a financial assessment officer. They will ask about your individual financial circumstances to work out if, and how much, you can contribute to the cost of your care.

If you decide not to have a financial assessment you will be expected to cover the full cost of your care and support.
